I’ve always been fascinated by the pyramids and pharoahs so Egypt has always been in my list of must-visit places.
During our trip, we were able to go inside one of the pyramids of Giza - the Pyramid of Chephren. The passage inside the pyramid is narrow and low so if you're claustrophobic or have back problems, I don't recommend it. I almost backed out because the Japanese who were coming out looked pale and were sweating & panting! BTW, the surface of a pyramid isn't flat as it may seem in photos (see last photo - this is specifically the surface of the pyramid of Cheops).
The real tomb, anthropoid coffins & treasures of King Tutankhamen are housed at the Egyptian Museum (which we also visited) and some in Luxor (where the tomb was discovered). But it’s not allowed to take pics in the museum so the pic of King Tut's golden mask here (1st photo) is just a replica on display at the Pharaonic Village.
Another must-do when in Egypt is to go on an evening cruise at the Nile River (see 2nd photo). One of the performers in the cruise was called a swirling dervish (the guy in the colorful costume). Swirling dervishes do this swirling dance as a form of worship & meditation and they can swirl for as long as 30 mins and never get dizzy! Amazing, huh?:)
We also spent a night in the desert (near Mt. Sinai) and stayed in pretty chalets against the beautiful landscape (see 4th photo). Some of our travel companions climbed Mt Sinai to watch the sunrise but I decided to just sleep (call time was at 2am!).
P.S. If you're scared to go to Egypt because of suicide bombing incidents, consider this - Cairo is the third most populated city in the world - next to Tokyo and Mexico. Approximately 6M cars cross Cairo and Giza daily. What are the chances?! Unless of course it's your time... :)
